Ultrasound-guided needle biopsy of the breast and other interventional procedures.

The techniques of and indications for ultrasound-guided needle biopsy of nonpalpable breast lesions are described. High-frequency ultrasonography offers several distinct advantages over sterotaxy and is the technique of choice for guiding the drainage of cysts and fluid collections and the biopsy of any solid mass that can be identified on sonograms. Ultrasonography also can be used for localizing such lesions preoperatively.
