Corneal foreign body removal and treatment.

Corneal foreign bodies are a frequent source of ocular trauma. Patients presenting with corneal foreign bodies deserve careful evaluation to determine the degree of injury. This article reviews the instrumentation and procedures used for removal of corneal foreign bodies and rust rings, as well as appropriate follow-up care. Optometrists, as primary eye care providers, should be comfortable with the treatment and management of this common corneal injury.
