Presbyopia corrections with the WaveLight ALLEGRETTO: 3-month results.

PURPOSE: Progressive multifocal LASIK (PML) is a corneal surgical technique that is based on the principles of LASIK to create a multifocal or aspheric corneal surface. This retrospective study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of this procedure.

METHODS: One hundred seventy-eight patients underwent PML with the WaveLight ALLEGRETTO platform (Alcon Laboratories Inc), of which 102 patients had at least 3-month follow-up.

RESULTS: After surgery, 81% of patients had 20/20 or better binocular uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), and 98% had 20/25 or better binocular UDVA. Additionally, 44% of patients had Jaeger (J) 1 binocular near visual acuity, 60% had J2, and 96% had J3.

CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests that PML performed with the WaveLight ALLEGRETTO platform is a safe and effective treatment for this patient population.
