Fetal tumors of the choroid plexus: is differential diagnosis between papilloma and carcinoma possible?
Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology 2011 January 11
Fetal choroid plexus tumors are uncommon tumors. The prognosis is widely different depending on the histologic findings: papilloma or carcinoma. We report a case of pretenatal diagnosis of choroid plexus mass discovered by ultrasound at 33 weeks of gestation. A prenatal (T1, T2, T2* and diffusion weighted sequences) MRI was used to rule out a hematoma. During the follow-up ultrasound and MRI showed an important increase of the mass volume, suggesting the diagnosis of malignant tumor. Full surgical excision was performed at 20 days of life and histologic analysis revealed a papilloma. Copyright © 2010 ISUOG. Published by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
