A modified method of labia minora reduction: the de-epithelialised reduction of the central and posterior labia minora.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to introduce a new method of labiaplasty. Here we describe the surgical procedure, outcomes and the advantages and disadvantages of this method.

METHOD: The medical records of 167 patients aged between 20 and 43 years who underwent reduction of the labia minora from May 2006 to March 2011 were reviewed. The procedures performed in these studies used de-epithelialised reduction of the middle and posterior sections of the labia minora.

RESULTS: All the surgeries were performed successfully, and 164 patients experienced an uneventful postoperative period. A minor dehiscence occurred in one patient, who recovered with no requirement for additional treatment. Another two women felt that the reduction was not fully achieved. All of the patients were satisfied with the eventual aesthetic appearance.

CONCLUSIONS: The de-epithelialised reduction of the middle and posterior portion of the labia minora is a simple and safe method that is associated with satisfactory outcomes.
