Female genital tract papillomavirus in conjunctival papillomas of infancy.
American Journal of Ophthalmology 1997 April
PURPOSE: To show the association between conjunctival papillomas present during infancy and maternal infection with human papillomavirus.
METHOD: Case report of conjunctival papillomas occurring in an infant born to a mother with a human papillomavirus infection of the vulva during pregnancy.
RESULT: The infant developed conjunctival papillomas caused by human papillomavirus of the female genital tract.
CONCLUSIONS: Conjunctival papillomas present during infancy may be caused by vertical transmission of the human papillomavirus from mother to infant during delivery. Mothers of infants with conjunctival papillomas should be examined for diseases associated with human papillomavirus.
